#shaun tan  #his works are absolutely stunning and amazing and beautiful and heartfelt  #'the red tree' has some of the most accurate portrayals of depression i've ever read  #'the lost thing' about that - being lost and on the fringes of society where nobody notices and the inevitable part of life - growing up ...  #and becoming a faceless and unseeing cog of that same grey society  #and its short film adaption won an oscar btw (you can watch it on youtube)  #'the arrival' about being an immigrant - of having family stranded far away  #of working in an utterly bewildering country with strange customs and animals and language  #and 'tales of outer suburbia' about the pure whimsy of suburban life and its unending uniformity  #and the simplicity of life and all its quirks and in between  #these aren't all of his works but they're my favorites  #just  #go read his stuff  #they're absolutely sublime and they all speak to your soul  #about childhood and adulthood and the wonders of life and lives unexamined  #i just love shaun tan so much
