this has been my favorite music video for a long time…
the english translation might sound a little awkward but the lyrics never fail to bring on the waterworks.
It would be absolutely amazing if someone made a Natsume Yuujinchou MAD to this song. The “god” character would be Natsume Reiko, and the one in red - the narrator - Natsume Takashi. Can’t you see the parallels? Reiko shapes every facet of Takashi’s life, but she is unable to understand his wishes. She is unable to understand his wish to be kind instead of strong, his wish for tears, love, and incompleteness instead of self-contained perfection. But in the end, she still wants for her grandson to proudly show her his tears, to show her his struggles for and triumphs in a life she could never have.
Jesus, I’m crying again.
The combination of these lyrics and the most emotional, touching show I’ve ever encountered is more than enough to set me off.
